General Garden Tips From Steve

  • Water the ground before applying South- Hort Mulch. This will help the soil beneath the mulch stay moist. Also, make sure you leave a gap between the mulch and the trunk of any trees and shrubs. This will avoid collar rot. It is always good to place a layer of compost between the soil and mulch. This will feed your plants and promote micro activity while the mulch is breaking down.
  • When pruning any diseased plant, it is good practice to dip your secateurs into mentholated spirits. This will stop the spread of diseases from plant to plant. Always make sure to dry the secateurs between cuttings first
  • When sowing your veggie seeds in rows. Use South- Hort seed raising mix to back fill. This will give your seeds a great start as well as showing you exactly where your rows of seeds are before they germinate.
  • Place South- Hort Mulching bark at a depth of 100mm. This will help suppress weed growth and retain moisture
  • When applying South- Hort Lawn Fertiliser pre water the lawn first, then water in after application. This will stop any burning from accruing. A good time to apply is during or prior to rain.
